About Finca San Isidro

Yulma could never have imagined how coffee was going to be such an essential part of her life. While the process that has to be followed to maintain a farm of any kind requires hard work and deviation, coffee farms in particular require individuals with great patiency and delicacy in order to be able to take proper care of the coffee farm and face any obstacles presented along the way. Just as that special patience is acquired through the farm work and specific processes on the farm, Yulma learned to be patient with herself in order to enjoy every moment that this great and new adventure takes her on. Yulma had always felt the need to find something that shw was good at and could freely use her hands. Being surrounded by nature and able to live and learn more about coffee is something that motivates her to be the best version of herself. Although she now has a more mature level of experience, she enjoys learning more every day about the techniques that are required to create a unique coffee.

Just 20 minutes from the main highway to Cobán in Guatemala you can find Finca San Isidro. This farm is a size of 2 hectares in which you can feel like a small piece of heaven that is capable of captivating anyone with its farm, from its forest full of conifers and oaks, mixed with the aroma of earth creates a fine mist throughout the year. The farm also has the charm of a nearby river that allows you to hear its relaxing sounds from the coffee farm and main house. The journey to the farm consists of sounds of birds and vibrant colors with low temperatures and a tropical influence from the Atlantic. This creates a unique environment that fosters the cultivation of the noble crop “El Café.”

Yulma and her husband are the first generation of coffee at Finca San Isidro. The farm was passed down to her husband from his father and grandfather who dedicated themselves to cattle raising. Today her husband helps to teach Yulma and her 12 year old son to work and preserve this legacy where such delicate flavors and aromas are cultivated with passion and care.

During her three years as a producer, the coffee industry has been in constant evolution. The feelings about production have changed, creating an environment in which specialty coffee is more successful and relevant, and Yulma’s coffee is one of them. The work throughout the year is hard but the satisfaction is felt at the end of each harvest when the coffee is enjoyed and transformed from from the field to the cup.

The coffee is a result of the drive of a family who, after living on the farm for many years, decided to carry out a project they knew nothing about. Dedicating coffee to their heart and soul makes this family successful.

Now it is a dream come true. Despite being a new crop for Yulma, she managed to have excellent results in regional competitions. She received 1st place in the Natural Process competition based on 2019-2020 and 8th place in the Rainforest Cobán competition based on 2020-2021.

Can you imagine being in the middle of the forest, enjoying a cup of coffee with notes of chocolate, almonds, caramel, apple and citrus… Without a doubt, it becomes like a little moment in paradise.

This feeling of satisfaction is priceless. Yulma is proud of the path she has traveled as it has not been an easy one, but it is the effort and dedication to her life on the farm and the coffee that serves as a catalyst of an insatiable inspiration to continue improving and expanding her work in coffee.
