About Finca San Juan

For María Elena, to continue the tradition as a coffee producer is to pay tribute to her grandfather Juan who in 1952 founded Finca San Juan in Metapán. Each harvest of coffee reminds her of working alongside the bourbon cherries in her childhood where she would spend her summer breaks.

The farm is a beautiful place. The road to the farm may be long, but is well worth it! The coffee grows surrounded by mountains with oaks and pines and the biodiversity ensures that the best quality fruits will grow alongside them.

Maria Elena is a producer with visionary and entrepreneurial spirit. She has broken the taboo in her family that “only men can manage the coffee business”. For many years, the coffee from Finca San Juan has been recognized in competitions including the Cup of Excellence, which opened their eyes to a world of opportunity.

Over time, they have implemented improvements to their wet mill and farm little by little and with great effort. Their attentiveness to the best agricultural practices and newest processing techniques goes hand-in-hand with their desire to continue growing as a business. This further allows the family to be involved throughout the processing and distribution steps to negotiate their bases directly with their clients. These innovations and improvements motivate them to continue.

To María Elena and her family, coffee signifies treasure! Without a doubt, Finca San Juan is a very important economic pillar, but it is also a medium to promote urban development projects in the community like plans for healthy fun for kids and teens, contributing to improving the quality of life for all in society.
