About Finca Bella Vista

Since I can remember, my life has always revolved around coffee. Coming from a coffee family, I spent so many years of my childhood at my family farm. Running around the plantation during harvest season with the cool breeze on our faces and the smell of ripe coffee cherries or going to the mill with my father at the end of each day and witnessing first hand the exciting activity there are all memories of happiness that motivated me to buy my own farm and become a third generation coffee producer.

In 2008, I bought Finca Bella Vista, located at the top of a hill on the Llamatepec mountain range near the town of Ataco which has been very well known for its high quality coffee. The farm has fertile volcanic soils and a natural spring which provides water year round. Grown under shade, we possess many native trees and fruit trees which provide food and shelter to the local fauna and migrating birds. In order to help preserve the environment, I cultivate coffee using sustainable practices. Our farm utilizes bioregulators such as fungi to control soil and foliar disease, thus protecting our native flora and fauna. In addition, twenty-five percent of our fertilization is organic where  worms are used to secrete nutritional castings to the soil.

During harvest,  all of our coffee is hand-picked when perfectly ripe for quality control and to ensure a great cup of coffee and unique attributes. Over the years, Finca Bella Vista has been fortunate to attain many achievements. One of which has been maintaining the production of an excellent cup every year to position our coffee with very prestigious clients in the specialty coffee business. The flavor profiles of our coffee includes chocolate, floral, and molasses. Our processes range from washed, natural and honey.

In the future, I hope to establish an irrigation system to more efficiently perfect my coffee growing practices.

I am proud of the resiliency we have developed through the difficult times we have had to endure: droughts, rust disease, and a lack of financing. Despite all, my love and passion for coffee is what keeps us going.
