About Zenith Coffee

Karla and her husband Alvaro, both architects, are the fifth generation of coffee producing families. Zenith Coffee is a family business built with motivation, hard work, and love for the land and for the coffee. Karla’s great grandfather was a successful coffee producer in the eastern part of El Salvador. Years later, her father, who was a civil engineer, bought farms from her grandfather and, little by little, became a successful producer himself in the Tecapa-Chinameca region. For Alvaro, his great grandfather was a large producer in the western part of Ahuachapan, a region known as the “Golden Belt” due to high productivity of coffee.

On the side of Alvaro, her husband, her great-grandfather was one of the great coffee producers in the Western zone (Ahuachapán), known as the "Golden Belt" for being the most coffee-producing area in the country, so he too He grew up with coffee as part of his life path. Our farms have belonged to my husband's family since 1875 and in 2013 my father bought them as a gift to us and from that year we began to work them together. Now, 150 years later, our children are the sixth generation, slowly beginning to learn about work and a passion for coffee.

Las Neblinas Estate Farms is made up of Fincas Puerto Arturo and El Carmencito. Being that these farms are small in area (24 manzanas/16.77Ha) and large in altitude (1,525-1675 masl), in 2014 we decided to dedicate these farms completely to the production of specialty coffee. We renovated about 85% of these farms with varieties such as Pacamara, Red, Pink, and Orange Bourbon, along with others. This past year we planted Gesha in the highest zones.

Our brand is called “Zenith Coffee”, zenith means mountain peak and our farms are found in the Cerro Grande de Apaneca (Region Apaneca-Ilamatepec) which are the zones highest in altitude and most fertile in El Salvador. “Las Neblinas Estate Farms” is the set of both farms “Las Neblinas” because in the afternoons the mist of the mountain descends to the area of the varietal garden and the highest parts of the farm.

We are proud that all of our coffee is shade grown and protected by Guamo and Inga Trees that emit CO2 and oxygen that promotes biodiversity in our farm. The farm has a Garden of Varietal where we monitor the state of our zone for diverse varietals of coffee. The garden is also an area where we plant different kinds of flowers that bring fauna like birds, butterflies and bees that help pollinate. We have an active inventory of birds (15 different kinds of hummingbird) and a pond where Koi fish and Maki frogs grow, both of which are in danger of extinction. We recognize that our farm plays an important role in our environment and we are proud to use practices that protect species in danger of extinction to see this diversity in every season.

We are committed to the prosperity of our workers, men and women that are heads of their family, to collaborate throughout the year and the future to increase the production of specialty coffee and sell it through direct trade. We will prioritize sustainability in every aspect-- economic, social and environmental. We desire to have a brand recognized for it’s name and it’s quality coffee.
