About Finca Los Pinos
In 1825, under the government of Justo Rufino Barrios, the Ríos family began their work in coffee production. Today, their fifth generation continues the tradition, strengthening ancestral ties by entering into specialty coffee. Patricia, the current lead coffee producer for the Ríos family, combines her familial culture with new market trends, ensuring a competitive quality of coffee from production to the consumer.
As the producer of Finca Los Pinos, Patricia is paving the way for innovation, by combining her learned ancestral knowledge with her drive to discover new and best practices. Located in the heart of the Chingo volcano, which marks the border between Guatemala and El Salvador, Finca Los Pinos is recognized as the “pulmón hídrico”, a vital hydric resource in the region for the conservation of soils, flora and fauna. Since 1825, the Ríos family has maintained a strong emphasis on following conservation techniques and farm productivity, ensuring the development of the soil and environment to continue the generational tradition of coffee production. With her ancestors introducing coffee to the community and offering opportunities for employment, Patricia works to continue using coffee as a way to enhance the quality of life for her family and the people around her.
During the last few years, coffee markets have evolved and Finca Los Pinos has innovated their production processes, taking advantage of the unique conditions of being part of a private nature reserve. Their coffee is produced in friendly conditions with our flora and fauna, which allows them to offer different aromas and flavors in each cup of Finca Los Pinos coffee.
Patricia, by always searching for creative solutions within coffee production, has molded her farm into being a pioneer to other coffee production farms in her community. She has grown the number of varietals grown on the farm to include Bourbon, Catuai, Anacafé 14 and Pacamara, and has strengthened her production process to deliver the high quality that specialty coffee merits. As an innovative farm, Finca Los Pinos is always experimenting with different operational procedures, including working with honey processes, natural processes, and fermentation. Patricia does not shy away from challenges and thus is constantly developing and learning how to improve the quality and treatment of coffee.
Patricia wishes to share her experience and success within the community and with other women coffee producers in hopes of raising awareness and empowering others to achieve similar dreams. In this way, Patricia plans on disseminating the knowledge of specialty coffee and integrating it into her community to improve the quality of life that is enveloped by coffee. With plans to complement and develop the entire production chain, Finca Los Pinos will continue to lead in innovation, penetrating the riskiest markets and receiving maximum reward.
