About Finca Rincón Escondido & Finca San Jorge

Silvia Lechuga and her husband, Tulio Lemus, have been married for 42 beautiful years, during which they started a family of five children and nine grandchildren. In that time, Silvia and Tulio also began a family coffee business. Their two farms, Finca Rincón Escondido y Finca San Jorge are located in the Guatemalan municipality Palencia. The coffee farms are a product of the couple’s hard work and dedication - today, their son Barsen has also joined the family business.

With rich soil and a total of 65 manzanas growing coffee, Finca Rincón Escondido Y San Jorge produce a distinct and delicious cup, characterized by notes of chocolate, caramel, orange, hazelnut, and dried red fruits. Their coffee, mainly caturra variety, is produced using washed processing. Silvia believes that the dedicated men and women working on the farms make their coffees special and excellent. She proudly proclaims that the coffee in Finca Rincon Escondido and San Jorge is produced with devotion: every person that is part of the coffee processing leaves their mark in it.

The farms offer breathtaking landscapes - located in northeast of Guatemala city, the beautiful and mountainous properties stand at around 1,432 - 1680 meters above sea level. The climate is usually warm, ranging from about 15 to 28 degrees celsius. Throughout the mountainous topography, there is rich vegetation that allows them to grow other crops including corn and beans. Rivers that flow through the farm alongside other sources of water contribute to the abundance of water in the region. All of these factors have created an oasis of a diverse flora and fauna including various native species of birds such as orioles, hawks, great kiskadees, and blue grosbeaks.

On weekends, Silvia and her family enjoys sharing picnics while immersing themselves in the nature around them. For the Lemus-Lechuga family, coffee is a symbol of perseverance. No matter what challenge they face, from la roya to the price crisis, they have been able to keep faith and hope for a promising future.

Silvia and her family never let the difficulties lower their goals of improving; rather, they see these times as opportunities to grow. These are the values that represent both farms, the Lemus-Lechuga family, and their clients and collaborators. Silvia and Tulio are motivated to leave a legacy of tenacity to their family because they believe that everything else in life is fleeting.
