About Finca Las Dos Marias

Patricia and her husband bought the farm for the wonderful view and called Finca Las Dos Marías for a memory of her childhood when she went with her father to the farm during harvest season. The farm is located in Jayaque at 1200 meters above sea level. When they purchased the farm in 2003, the production was just 500 pounds of coffee. Now her family is producing almost ten times as much.

Her daughter, Roberta Bara, has a passion for coffee and has recently focused on the differences between varieties of coffee and how they cup. She has a goal of buying a 50-acre farm where they can experiment with new varieties to increase their coffee sales.

They have renovated 80% of the farm since they started, all with the goal of improving and developing their production methods. At Finca Las Dos Marías, they are able to harvest, pulp, and dry their own coffee in the patios. With these skills, they have control over their cup quality and their earnings. In the following years, they have the goal of continuing to improve their quality and to enter the Cup of Excellence.

All of these successes are not without challenges. For example, they had issues with the rust plague that affected many farmers in El Salvador. This problem affects the process of delimiting coffee varieties to have a better harvest and have an organic production without fertilizers. A key area of focus for the Bara family in coffee is their attention to processes. Their goal is to care for the environment, produce high quality coffee, and develop an eco-tourism program.
