About Finca La Esperancita
Everything started a long time ago, when my parents bought coffee farms and they started producing coffee. I keep all the memories from the time of the year when I finished classes and my parents used to send me to look after the coffee harvest. I remember the peaceful sensation that you feel when you are in touch with nature and looking at how the coffee plantation comes alive with the laughs and singings of the coffee pickers. You can enjoy the cool weather while the fog at sunset surrounds everything.
Over the years I managed to acquire my own land that had belonged to my grandfather. He belonged to the first generation of coffee producers, my parents continued working the farms and now us as third and fourth generation are currently working to improve quality day by day together with my husband, my son and my grandchildren.
I accepted the challenge of transforming a neglected piece of land until it became a beautiful coffee plantation. At the beginning, we produced low quantities of coffee, approximately 12kg and now there are between 8000 kg and 9000 kg. This really makes me feel proud.
Currently, I have been working at the farm La Esperancita for about 30 years, located in El Guamo, Tepecoyo municipality, department of La Libertad that is part of the Cordillera del Bálsamo (Balsam Mountain range) and which is 980 meters above the sea level. It has a very fresh weather, which allows the cultivation of coffee. We have different varieties including Bourbon, Pacamara, Cuscatleco and Yellow Caturra. In addition, in on our farm you can find different kinds of fruit and timber trees that allow our coffee to be grown under shade. Our main interest is to produce 100% organic coffee and today we are already working on it.
All of this has been possible thanks to the values which we have always worked with: humility and passion. Through both, I have managed to set goals of changing, improving and adapting to the challenges that we have faced. My future goal is not only to dedicate myself to coffee production but also to get involved in the entire coffee production chain, until I have my own specialty coffee shop. My dreams are filled with the scent of coffee.
